teamLab, globally recognized for its art x technology, will open a new permanent art museum in the southeast area of Kyoto Station in October 2025. The facility is named teamLab Botanical Vortex Kyoto.
The location is in the redevelopment area near Kyoto Station in Minami-ku, Kyoto. This facility, being developed as part of Kyoto City’s “Creative and Dissemination Hub” concept, is sure to become a new staple for autumn Kyoto tourism.
To the Forefront of Experiential Art | What is teamLab?
teamLab is a Japan-born art collective that develops interactive art that visitors can immerse themselves in physically, using light, sound, and space. With permanent and touring exhibitions worldwide, including Odaiba and Toyosu, they create experiences that shake up visitors’ perceptions under the theme of “redefining recognition”.
The new facility ‘Botanical Vortex Kyoto’ is planning to unveil many new works and pieces not yet shown in Japan, generating high expectations from fans both domestic and international.
Notable Works Scheduled for Display (Partial List)
teamLab Botanical Vortex Kyoto is scheduled to display the following representative works. More new works, including Japan premieres, are planned to be announced, so stay tuned for future updates.
- Massless Amorphous Sculpture
A floating sculpture born from the order of bubbles and light. A work that questions the concept of “existence” beyond objects.

- Massless Sun and Dark Sun
Spheres of light and darkness appear in space, creating brilliance and chains when touched – a “sculpture of perception”.

- Morphing Continuum
An existence that becomes one beyond time and space. A life-like expression where the essence is maintained even as components are replaced.

- Traces of Life
A participatory work where visitors’ footsteps leave traces in the space, becoming part of the art.

All of these are works that allow you to experience teamLab’s unique philosophy of “only coming into being when people are present”.
Excellent Accessibility, in the Attention-Grabbing Southeast Kyoto Station Area Redevelopment
This facility will be built on city-owned land located in the Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit area (Minami-ku). The redevelopment project, jointly promoted by Kyoto City and companies based in Kyoto and Osaka, advocates for city planning centered on culture, arts, and youth.
Being within walking distance from Kyoto Station, it’s likely to become a new landmark easy to drop by during sightseeing.
